If you are tired of or not really into visiting lots of memorials, then consider visiting Georgetown. Georgetown is a little charming historical and sophisticated village. Go by bus, take the circulator (yellow) it’s a very nice ride.

Stay in high traffic areas. The University has emergency call boxes nearby. There are some alleys and trails in Gtown/Glover Park that I would avoid after midnight. Georgetown is safe as long as you don’t need to go into an alley to pee.
